I was actually typing a totally different blog about a new DANIMA proudct a few minutes ago when I got a call from my Dad who had just heard on the radio that E-Street Band member, Phantom Dan Federici had passed away. A sad, sad day here at DANIMA, as it is across the globe for Springsteen fans, and more importantly for Dan Federici fans, family and friends.
Dan was Bruce's keyboardist/accordian player for over 40 years. "Danny and I worked together for 40 years—he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much...we grew up together," Springsteen said in a statement posted on his official website.
Danny was like family. I've seen Bruce about 65 times and with the exception of the Human Touch tour and the last 2 shows on this tour, Danny was a part of all of them. Danny actually made my father-in-law (65 year old Italian man) sit down and watch Live in Barcelona because he happened to see a guy with an accordian...a bit of the old country in the E-Street Band. But he wasn't just an E Street Band member, Danny Federici had great solo albums and numerous appearances on other artists albums.
You'll be missed Danny. E Street won't ever sound the same, it won't ever look the same...it just won't be E Street without Phantom Dan. Farewell. |
