| The Team Makes All The Difference |

What a difference a year makes...or 2 for that matter. Over the last 12 or 13 months DANIMA has gone through some pretty big overhauls. Some were self-directed, others...well, not-so-much. But with all the upheaval, we managed to keep 99% of our business in check. And now, after quite a few staff changes...it looks as though we have a darn good team in place (yes, I'm knocking on wood as I type).
So, what has changed you say? Well, first of all we brought on an awesome new Systems Administrator, Sir Jozo, who came in and cleaned up a big mess that was left behind by our previous Sys Admin. Then after a few tries at programmers and utilizing contract workers, etc...we finally put in place a great new, young team (Ryan, The Spaminator and Aqeel, The Paginator) that, not only work well together but are eager to work (hmmm, they remind me of a guy I knew 12 years ago). It's refreshing having programmers who want to work and want to grow with us. And as always we have our beautiful, talented and extremely organized designer/office manager, Leigh-Ann, who, as of late, has been completely over-worked...but still manages to smile her way through the day! Then after our new Accountanting firm and bookkeeper got us back above board with our books we needed to make another bookkeeping change and brought on The Stickler, Louieeee. Lou's a blast from the past, but is definitely straightening out the day-to-day finances!!
Nick and I, well having this great team working away at our projects, we have been given some time to work on some different aspects of the business. And, now when I work 60+ hours it's not all scrambling and stressful...much better on the ole ticker!
I guess this is the purpose for my blog....I learned a valuable lesson. In the past we stuck with employees simply because we didn't want to rock the boat, we didn't want to go through the hiring process again...and plus, they new our system and teaching somebody else takes time...yadda, yadda, yadda. Well, when we decided that the programming position would be a revloving door until we got the right fit....bam! It's a nice feeling to have people with a similar work ethic as you, actually working for you. Lesson learned = when hiring for you business....find the right fit...the skill level will grow with time...the attitude won't...trust me!! Remember, you do outline the skill requirments in the job posting, so they should be coming into the interview with a certain level of expertise that you require...so, now it's time to get the person who fits your environment! |

Well, I better get back to work before they come back into my office and see me playing around on my blog...don't want to set a bad example.
Until next time... |
