Okay, is it just me or is time moving a bit too quickly these days? I remember being a teenager sitting in Mr. Tye's English class, watching the clock thinking that these particular 45 minutes would never end! Time seemed so much slower then. Now I get to work at 6:30 am and by 6:00 pm I'm wishing I had a bit more time to finish what I was doing? It's like it just disappears.
I realize it's not just me (it was a rhetorical question), everyone I know says the same thing - there's just not enough time in a day. We're all busy, busy, busy. Well, this morning I decided to stop and smell the roses. I slept through my alarm and then (even though in the back of my head I realized all the work that was waiting for me at the office) I went into my son's room at 7 am and there was that beautiful smiling face. He was up on all fours, waiting for one of us to rescue him from that crib and just hold him. So, that I did! I let my wife sleep and brought the little guy downstairs with me as I got ready for work (normally I'm long gone by the time he wakes up). He watched me exercise, laughing at every sit-up, he watched me shave, wondering what that white fluffy stuff was on Dad's face, and he watched me get dressed all cuddled up in my t-shirt. All the while he was smiling with delight and curiosity. A thousand hugs and a couple hundred kisses later I was ready for work...though by this time I wanted to stay and spend the day with him. What a great start to the day!!
So, I got to work an hour-and-a-half later than normal and, sure, I was behind...but it was worth it. I can't believe I don't do that more often! What a rush! |

| They say our little ones grow up so quickly. Not sure who "they" are, but "they" are right. We can't let this wonderful time just pass us by. After all, it's just work (did I say that). We need to find a balance. I need to find a balance. What was it John Mellencamp uttered in the late 80's. "I know there's a balance, I see it when I swing past". Hmmmm, sounds familiar! |
